A leader of drug trafficking networks, accused in the US, was captured after three decades of evading the authorities. Howard Farley used the identity of a child who died in 1955. The man was wanted for drug trafficking.
A drug leader has been wanted by the authorities for more than three decades, but without success. Howard Farley, 72, was indicted in 1985 for operating the Southern Line, a railroad used to transport narcotics in the United States.
Of the 73 people arrested in this case, Farley was the only one not captured so far.
For 35 years, Farley allegedly lived right under the noses of the authorities, having attributed the identity of a child who died in 1955. The fugitive stole the identity of a person identified only as “TB” who was born in Lake Worth, Florida, in 1954 and died three months later, writes nypost.com.
Federal prosecutors find out after the government received the passport renewal application in February, using TB’s name, date of birth and social security number
Investigators uncovered the death certificate and noted that information on TB was not recorded until 1983, which was unusual for someone born in 1954.
Farley used TB information to obtain a passport three times: in March 1987, October 1998 and October 2008. He used the fraudulent passport to travel to Vietnam in 2018, investigators determined.
