In an attack in northeastern Nigeria, alleged fighters from the Islamist group Boko Haram killed at least 110 people, the AFP news agency reported. “At least 110 civilians were mercilessly murdered and many more injured,” said UN auxiliary coordinator Edward Kallon.
Among the victims are 43 farmers arrested and handcuffed while working in the rice fields near the village of Koshobe. As a result, their throats were cut.
Up to 36,000 people have died in the attacks on Boko Haram in the region since 2009. Nearly two million people have been forced to flee.
