The number of Germans who were verifiably infected with the coronavirus in one day has reached a new high. The Robert Koch Institute reports nearly 15,000 new infections and shows once again to the Chancellor and leaders of the country: Action is needed.

According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), nearly 15,000 new cases of corona infection were reported in Germany within one day. As RKI announced in the morning, citing information from health authorities, a total of 14,964 new cases were registered on Tuesday, up from 11,409 new cases the previous day. This is the highest value since the start of the pandemic.

The total number of cases of infection recorded in Germany since the start of the pandemic has risen to 449,275, the number of coronavirus-related deaths to 10,098, 27 more than the previous day.

In a video link with the prime ministers of the 16 federal states, Chancellor Angela Merkel wants to speak at noon about the next steps in controlling the pandemic. According to a draft document, he wants to impose a “small block” which should include the closure of restaurants, cinemas and sports studios. The measures are expected to apply from 4 November.
