In a remote area of the US state of Utah, a helicopter crew found an unusual metal monolith.
The crew counted sheep in southeastern Utah from the air last Wednesday when the crew saw the object and landed nearby for a closer inspection, the state authority announced.
Did the metal monolith come from another planet?
The photos show the column in the center of a red rock landscape characteristic of the region. Pilot Bret Hutchings told local broadcaster KSL that the object was three to three and a half meters high. “We joked that if one of us suddenly disappears, the rest of us should escape.”
The origin of the metal monolith is unclear. The authority did not provide any information on the exact location so that spectators would not make a pilgrimage to the monolith and get lost on the way.
It is still unclear whether the object will stop. It is illegal to install objects or works of art on state-administered land without authorization, “no matter what planet you come from,” wrote the Utah Public Safety Authority. (SDA)
