The proposal to organize the 748 polling stations abroad is the result of the consultation of the communities of Romanian citizens abroad and of the constant commitment and involvement of the heads of mission and the staff of the Diplomatic and Consular Corps in their coordination, in particular and difficult conditions , spawned by the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the MFA.
According to a statement sent on Monday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the 12 locations communicated by AEP were taken into consideration, following requests for the establishment of sections registered on the www.votstrainatate.ro platform. Therefore, the argumentative documentation sent to AEP includes, among others, both the results of the consultations of the diplomatic missions and consular offices with the communities of Romanian citizens abroad, and the logistical notes relating to compliance with the conditions for the functioning of the polling stations. electoral.
The number of polling stations abroad is lower than in 2019, in the presidential elections.
Most polling stations will be held in Spain (140 polling stations, up from 143 in the 2019 presidential election), Italy (137 polling stations, up from 142 in the 2019 presidential election), Germany (61 polling stations, up from 80 held in the 2019 presidential election), Great Britain (50 sections, compared to 72 held in the 2019 presidential election), France (48 sections, compared to 50 held in the 2019 presidential election), USA (36 polling stations, compared to 38 organized in the 2019 presidential election), Republic of Moldova (30 polling stations, compared to 37 organized in the 2019 presidential election), Belgium (19 polling stations, compared to 23 organized in the 2019 presidential election), Austria (17 sections, as in the 2019 presidential election), Ireland (16 sections, as in the 2019 presidential election), The Netherlands (15 sections, compared to 25 held in the presidential election 2019), Greece (11 sections, just like you choose 2019 presidential election), Norway (10 sections, like 2019 presidential election), Denmark (10 sections, compared to 12 held in 2019 presidential election), Portugal ( 9 sections, as in the 2019 presidential election), Canada (7 sections, compared to 9 in the 2019 presidential election), Switzerland (7 sections, compared to 8 in the 2019 presidential election), Australia and New Zealand (7 sections, as in the 2019 presidential elections), Hungary (7 sections, compared to 6 organized in the 2019 presidential elections) and Finland (4 sections, compared to 3 organized in the 2019 presidential elections).
The Maltese and Nigerian authorities have stated that they will not allow the creation of polling stations.
At the same time, for objective reasons, the MFA recalls that no polling stations will be organized in Venezuela, because the activity of the diplomatic mission has been suspended due to the deterioration of security conditions, and in the Korean DPR the borders of this state are closed . allows you to send the necessary materials.
Romanian citizens resident or resident abroad can vote in polling stations organized abroad for two days: Saturday 5 December and Sunday 6 December 2020.
