Mass tests at Shanghai airport cause chaos
Several infections were reported to have been reported at Pudong Airport in Shanghai over the weekend. China is known to be strict in containing the pandemic and immediately had airport workers tested for corona virus.

Mass testing took place on Sunday, but the plan didn’t go as planned. Videos circulating on social media show a group of anxious people being huddled together by workers in protective suits.

As the New York Times writes, the mass test is said to have been ordered due to five reported cases related to the airport. The videos quickly disappeared from WeChat and Weibo, both Chinese social media platforms.
The crowd should have been quickly brought under control. Shanghai police released images showing an orderly trial. “Right now everything is normal and there is an orderly queue for testing,” writes The Paper, a Shanghai-based news site.
After several coronavirus infections have been linked to airports, Chinese health authorities will step up testing and sanitation measures at airports. Chinese experts have repeatedly theorized that the virus could be transmitted to goods from abroad. (cki)
