Romina Celeste Núñez, 24, had disappeared in Spain since New Year's Eve. On Sunday, the Guardia Civil arrested the husband of the Paraguayan woman and, even denying murder, admitted that she had thrown the woman's body into the sea after trying to burn her.

The victim's closest relative will have been in contact with her for the last time on December 31st. According to the Cuatro television station, her husband, a 42-year-old engineer, was contacted but never answered the phone. A week after the disappearance, the man, Raúl Diaz, finally reported the disappearance.

On Sunday, authorities arrested Raúl Diaz after being discovered, in the house where the couple lived in Lanzarote, the blood of Romina. The man admits he threw his partner's body at the sea, after trying to burn him at home, but he does not assume the murder of this.

According to sources close to the case, quoted by the newspaper La Vanguardia, Raúl said that he tried to burn the woman's body in the backyard. Then he threw it into the sea and scattered it on different areas of the coast, as it was carbonized and eventually dismembered.

However, the suspect denies having been the author of the murder of the woman.

"I was up all night and all morning on the coast, walking, watching the sunrise and drinking beer, I came home at 3 and it was not," he said during the interrogation, adding that he had not filed a complaint initially because the woman "had already disappeared many times".

According to the newspaper El País, the couple had a heated discussion in the early hours of January 1, after Romina asked for money to visit her son in Paraguay.

The same newspaper also writes that the woman had already reported her husband to the authorities, whom he married in August. The first complaint took place two days before the wedding and the last one on December 29th.

In responses to the authorities, when asked what were the reasons that led him to hide the body, the man said he had found Romina already dead and, because it was under the influence of drugs, not he knew what to do.

The Guardia Civil is now continuing the search to find the remains of the woman.
