When the first corona wave hit the United States in April, the reported number of new infections each day was about 30,000. This value was probably too low, because at that time there were not enough tests to reliably measure the actual spread of the virus. In July, when the second wave swept across the United States, the problem was solved. During this period, around 66,000 new infections were diagnosed every day, more than double the number three months earlier.

Now the third crown wave has the country under control and the numbers are breaking all records. The infection rate is again increasing exponentially, currently around 150,000 people in America are infected with the virus every day, five times more than in spring. There are already a total of eleven million infected people in the United States, more than three percent of the population. If the infection rate remains that high, another million people are infected every week.
