A contradictory discussion of philosopher Immanuel Kant’s theories ended with a man killed in a grocery store in southern Russia, Reuters reports.

Rostov-on-Don police say a fight broke out between two men while they were arguing over Kant, the German author of Critics of pure reason, without giving details of their debate.

“During the fight, the suspect pulled out a gun that fired rubber bullets and fired several shots at his opponent,” it is said, adding that a man was arrested and the victim was taken to hospital. The victim was in no danger of death.

Kant lived in Koenigsberg, which is now the Russian city of Kaliningrad, and is a central figure in modern philosophy.

Many Russians like to talk about philosophy and history, often over a drink, but such discussions rarely end in shootings.
