Union Minister Ramdas Athawale and Raigad’s NCP MP Sunil Tatkare announced on Tuesday they tested positive for Covid-19. Both were admitted to Mumbai hospitals.

Athawale (60), a member of Rajya Sabha and minister of state for social justice, is diabetic. On Monday he attended an event in Mumbai to include actor Payal Ghosh in the Republican Party of India (A).

Tatkare (65), took to social media to announce that he tested positive. He said his health was fine but he had been hospitalized as a precaution.

Named by NCP as one of the Bihar Assembly’s top polling activists, Tatkare is a close associate of Deputy Minister Ajit Pawar, who tested positive for Covid-19 on Monday.

Over the past few months, more than a dozen Maharashtra politicians and ministers have tested positive, including opposition leader Devendra Fadnavis. Ministers who tested positive included Jitendra Awhad, Ashok Chavan, Dhananjay Munde, Varsha Gaikwad, Eknath Shinde, Nitin Raut, Hasan Mushrif, Sunil Kedar, Balasaheb Patil, Aslam Shaikh, Bacchu Kadu, Abdul Sattar, Sanjay Banseetjode and V.
