Antony Blinken, 58, is one of Joe Biden’s top foreign policy advisers and was the State Department’s number two during President Barack Obama’s tenure while Biden was vice president. According to the New York Times and Bloomberg, the president-elect intends to announce the appointment of the secretary of state on Tuesday.
A staunch supporter of multilateralism, Blinken will succeed Mike Pompeo, secretary of state to President Donald Trump, a supporter of “maximum pressure” on Iran and an uncompromising policy towards China, AFP notes.
