Joe Biden: We are on track to win this election

He was also confident that Pennsylvania will win, the counting of which will continue this Wednesday with the vote by mail.

Without hiding their nervousness, the Democrats gathered Tuesday night at Biden-Harris campaign headquarters in Wilmington, Delaware, for an unprecedented election night event.

“I think we’re on track to win this election,” Democratic candidate Joe Biden told supporters who were listening to him inside about 300 cars in a drive-in with social distancing in a parking lot in his hometown of Wilmington.

“It’s not over until all the votes are counted,” added the 77-year-old candidate smiling from the stage.

One of the first to arrive at the unusual event was Rossana Arteaga Lorenza, 37, with her young son Henry. His car had Biden-Harris stickers on the doors and American flags sticking out the window.

“I’m thrilled to be here,” he told AFP from his car. “If Joe Biden becomes president, I will be extremely happy. We hope for a better future for our country.”

Trump prevailed in Florida, one of the most coveted states with 29 electoral votes, where polls predicted very tight results.

But veteran former vice president of Barack Obama said he felt confident about his chances in Arizona, a state that Trump won four years ago, and highlighted his triumph in Minnesota.

“We’re still in the running in Georgia. And I’m optimistic about Wisconsin and Michigan. And by the way, it’ll take some time, but we’ll win in Pennsylvania,” the Democrat said.

The 77-year-old Biden campaign was marked by drive-in campaign events due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Red, blue, and white traffic cones marked “Biden-Harris” separated the cars every two meters.

In the press area, the chairs were placed inside white-painted circles to ensure that journalists kept social distances.

Thomas Hansen, 32, said he was cautiously optimistic.

“I have doubts (…) but I think it will be fine, especially due to the number of people who voted in advance. I think it is a good sign,” he told AFP.

Hansen said he was tired of the drama surrounding the Trump presidency.

“I want normality, for sure,” he said, standing in front of his car, covered in a patchwork quilt that said “Biden Reds.”

“I think most of the time in the White House has to be boring. It’s as it should be. And if it’s not, it’s because you’re doing something wrong,” he added.
