The recount of votes in the US presidential election in the state of Georgia confirmed the victory of Democrat Joe Biden, local officials announced Thursday.
The initial tally only gave the Democrat about 14,000 votes ahead of his rival, US President Donald Trump.
The margin of victory was so small that a manual recount was done. The gap has narrowed slightly, with Joe Biden now just over 12,200 votes ahead.
The difference between the two candidates is still very small. Trump, who disputes the defeat, could then ask for another recount, clarified the office of the Georgian secretary of state, responsible for the elections.
Biden’s victory extends the Electoral College advantage over the Republican re-candidate for the White House.
Biden was declared the winner in the November 7 presidential election, after winning three major states: Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin.
Biden now has 306 delegates in the constituency, up from Trump’s 232.
