Italy registers nearly 38,000 new cases, Spain exceeds 19,000 and the UK exceeds 33,000 – Executive Digest

Italy

The Italian Civil Protection revealed today, referring to the last 24 hours, the record of 37,978 new cases of Covid-19, with 636 people killed, the latter number corresponding to an increase compared to Wednesday.

The country yesterday passed the milestone of one million cases, with a total of 1,066,401 infected. The 45,000 deaths caused by Covid-19 since the start of the pandemic have also been exceeded (at the moment there are 45,589 deaths).

Lombardy is once again the Italian region with the largest number of new cases: in the last 24 hours it has registered over nine thousand cases, beating a new record. Piedmont and Campania follow.

Spain

The autonomous communities notified the Ministry of Health this Wednesday, 19,511 new cases of Covid-19. The global number of infections in Spain has risen to 1,437,220 since the start of the pandemic, according to official statistics.

In addition, 536 people died with a confirmed diagnosis of Covid-19 on the last day in Spain. The records indicate 40,641 deaths, victims of Covid-19, since the virus arrived in the country, according to data from the ministry.

The community of Madrid continues to be currently the region most affected by the public health crisis in the country.

UK

The UK has registered 33,470 new infections, the UK Ministry of Health announced today, according to “El Pais”. To date, death figures have not yet been released.

The cumulative total since the start of the covid-19 pandemic in the UK is now 1,290,195 confirmed infections within 28 days after victims received a positive test.

These figures represent a substantial increase from Wednesday, where the number of new infections had been around 22,000.

Globally, the Covid-19 pandemic has infected more than 52.4 million people in 190 countries and territories, according to Johns Hopkins University in the United States. Furthermore, the virus has claimed 1.2 million lives.
