(CNN) – Iota has strengthened in a hurricane and is expected to quickly turn into a major hurricane as it approaches Central America, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) said in its 1pm update on Sunday. I’m ET.
A major hurricane is classified by sustained winds of over 178 km / h.
Iota is located about 475 km east of the island of Providencia in Colombia with maximum sustained winds of 120 km / h. It is moving west and its current trail will bring the storm ashore in a similar location to Hurricane Eta just two weeks ago.
Iota is expected to arrive Monday evening or Tuesday morning, local time.
