Publicist Ion Cristoiu says that the West is going through a crisis similar to the one that led to the collapse of the Roman Empire, caused by the decline of morals: Joe Biden’s victory in the American elections proved that America can no longer be morally Once upon a time.

We reproduce in full the editorial published on cristoiublog.ro:
“Traveling to Rome for Catholic Easter, in 2014, coinciding with our Easter, of the Orthodox, I was able to attend the two Hollywood shows at the Vatican on Good Friday and Easter.
Near the Colosseum there was the Holy Friday Mass, Via Crucis, broadcast live on Italian television. On the Via des Fori Imperiali, transformed into a pedestrian artery, huge screens also broadcast the service next to the famous monument. On the wall of the Colosseum from Via dei Fori Imperiali, another screen offered those who had not penetrated up to the front rows, the show in Piazza Colosseo. Huge searchlights, perched on real scaffolding towers, provided the brilliant light. An enormous bulbous cross, imagined on the Arch of Constantine, exalted the atmosphere of great spectacle of the Liturgy.
I met the grandiose and colossally well directed director in St. Peter’s Square two days later, on Easter Sunday, when Pope Francis gave the blessing of the city and the blind from the loggia. Immersed in the crowd of 100,000 people who photographed and filmed with their cell phones, they trampled their feet, bursting into arguing over the best possible place for a hypothetical appearance of the Pope among them, I wondered how many had ended up under the power of faith and how many under the power of the need for performance or just routine.
A wander through the shops and souvenir stalls discover an industrial production dedicated to Pope Francis: calendars, dolls, postcards, brochures.
Impossible not to think that the withdrawal of the German Benedict XVI and the election of this Pope from Latin America, increasingly sold as a consumer product, have responded to the conclusion that the Catholic Church needs to respond to the growing crisis of faith. , by a Pope to attract young people to the Church.
The weakening of the Christian faith in the West has a much deeper basis than the absence of modern means of seduction.
The presence, the adoration, the falling on one’s knees, the entrance into the Church, however, are external signs of interior faith.
You, this faith, becomes, as it passes, in the West, more and more fragile not because the Church has been slow to become attractive for the proportions of a rock concert at the stadium, but because the Western world is falling into a fatal process of decay of morality.
Back home, I seriously studied ancient Rome, considering that the visit to the Ouncit Point, Hit-Point of the Host Forum, the Palatine Hill and the Chapter should also be valued in the Library.
Among the many books on the shelf assigned to ancient Rome, we also find a seductive book by Indro Montanelli Rome – An Unpublished History, published in Milan in 1969, translated in 1995.
Like many explorers of ancient Rome, the author tries to discover the root causes of the collapse of the Empire that was Rome.
In the part designated as Conclusion, the author reflects on the disaster caused by external factors, such as the rise of Christianity and the onslaught of the barbarians:
“Most researchers say the disaster was caused mainly by two things: Christianity and the pressure of the barbarians who invaded the North and the East. We don’t believe it. Christianity did not destroy anything. It just buried a body. : that of a religion no one believed in now. It filled the void she left. A religion is important, not so much because it erects temples and performs rituals, but because it offers rules of moral conduct. Paganism had offered these rules. But the day Christ was born, it was not long and people, aware or not, expected something else. It was not the birth of the new faith that caused the decline of the old one, but vice versa. Tertullian, who clearly saw “He said it openly. For him, all the pagan people were in liquidation. And the sooner they were buried, the better for everyone.”
As for external enemies, Rome, for a thousand years, was used to having them, to fight them and to defeat them. The Visigoths, Vandals and Huns who appeared on the Alps were no more ferocious and experienced warriors than the Cimbri, Teutons and Gauls that Marius and Caesar had faced and destroyed. And nothing leads us to believe that Attila was a greater general than Hannibal, who won ten battles against the Romans and then lost the war. Only he had the misfortune of being stopped by a Roman army, made up exclusively of Germans, including officers, because Gallienus had also forbidden military service to senators. Rome was already occupied and garrisoned by foreign garrisons. The so-called “invasion” was nothing more than a change of guard, carried out between barbarians.
The collapse of the Roman Empire has its cause – observes the author – in the decline of morality. Because of libertarianism, Romanians themselves are becoming less and less, because the typical family is falling apart, because the Romans no longer have children, but above all because they no longer have any moral value.
Is something similar happening in the West?
Probably yes.
This while the “barbarians” – Arabs, Asians, Africans – have children, believe in the family and, above all, have moral values.
Islamic fundamentalism, however, remains an example of exaggerated faith.
As we noted in a travel report, in Western countries we are surprised by the growing number of immigrants – barbarians, the Romans would have called them – who have taken the World of Lights by storm and do the hardest work, rejected by the ‘West more and more comfortable.
These nations are settling in the West, with all their moral values, having children, and if they are now engaged in a job seen as shameful, they will gradually take the place of the less and less vigorous Westerners. The effort to keep Westerners close to the Church through Hollywood means may be a sign that the signs of the crisis are being felt, but that the Cures are meaningless.
Is this process fatal?
Unquestionably yes, like the process by which the Roman Empire collapsed.
And the best proof is Donald Trump’s defeat in the US elections, equivalent to a coup. Donald Trump tried to bring America back to the moral values that resisted it: family, faith, patriotism. Joe Biden’s victory, practically the victory of progressives in the Democratic Party, proved that America can no longer be morally what it once was. “
