Husband confessed to killing a transgender model and dancer in Miami

A transgendered Hispanic woman who participated in several beauty pageants was stabbed to death “out of jealousy” in the American city of Miami at the hands of her husband, who confessed to the crime, according to police authorities in charge of the case.

Investigators identified her killer as Ygor Arrudasouza, a 27-year-old man married to the woman.

According to the police report, Arrudasouza called the emergency services around 4:25 am on Tuesday to say that he had stabbed his wife, Herrera.

Arrudasouza, who appeared in a Miami-Dade County court on Wednesday, faces a second-degree murder charge for the death of Herrera, a Cuban salsa dancer who had competed in Miss Trans Universe and other beauty pageants. Local television 10.

After the alleged murder, her husband confessed to officers who went to an apartment in the Art Plaza Tower building in downtown Miami that it was a “jealousy” attack, according to the police report.

Arrudasouza told Miami police officers that Herrera had confessed to finding a “better man” than him, the arrest report added.

Arrudasouza, currently detained without bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami, was also arrested last January on three battery counts, according to Miami-Dade County Court documents.

Miami-Dade correctional and rehabilitation records show Arrudasouza has an immigration hold and was out on bail when the murder took place, Local 10 added.

In a 2015 interview with The Heroines of My Life blog, the Cuban model noted that “here in the United States, I had the opportunity to become the woman I always dreamed of being”.

“I enjoy beauty pageants, modeling, traveling, music, dance and learning the history of other cultures around the world,” she added.

“I am very strong because life has made me hard that way! I love because my parents taught me to love everyone equally and respect,” Herrera said in the interview.

According to the blog which “portrays some 500 transgender women from all walks of life”, Herrera was born in 1981 in the city of Santa Clara, Cuba, 300 kilometers east of Havana.
