Humanity always falls in love with the same lies

Does it mean establishing a dictatorship and springing from the laboratory? Numerous fairy tales about the crown pandemic circulate. A look at the story reveals the scam behind it.

By the fall of 1918, coffins were running out in the United States. An epidemic has devastated the globe, in Switzerland writer Stefan Zweig observed: “It eats 20,000 to 40,000 people every day”. There is talk of the Spanish flu, the most devastating flu pandemic that has ever hit humanity.

The pathogen is a tiny virus, but this awareness was not expected to materialize until the 1930s. In 1918, many Americans suspected a completely different cause of the epidemic: the Germans. The Americans had been at war with these since 1917.

Death for the aspirin packet?

Conspiracy theories were exploding. At that time, many people felt uncomfortable just looking at a packet of aspirin from German manufacturer Bayer. Was it really all about drugs? Or did the Germans also hide the pathogen that caused such dire consequences?

Or even worse: had the German submarines smuggled the deadly pathogens into the United States? One trusted the adversary of war a great deal. In 1915, the Germans were the first warring nation to use poison gas as a weapon of mass destruction near Ypres. Whoever does something like this could also resort to very similar insidious means against the civilian population, so does the thinking. “The Germans have triggered epidemics in Europe,” said a senior US officer in 1918, as quoted by Laura Spinney in her book “1918. Die Welt im Fieber”. “There is no reason why you should treat America with gloves.”

The Spanish flu was also initially called “German poison”. Only gradually did the realization gain acceptance that the adversary of the war had nothing to do with the development of the pandemic. Because the Germans also suffered and died from the flu.

Unbelief for centuries

Almost a hundred years after the Spanish flu, the coronavirus is causing fear and uncertainty in our present. And like 100 years ago, conspiracy myths are popping up. Corona comes from the laboratory, it is said, for example, that Covid-19 should be used to subjugate the Germans in particular and humanity in general. Bill Gates is described as the main culprit who wants to use vaccinations and the World Health Organization (WHO) to carry out his alleged sinister plans.

But all the conspiracy myths surrounding the terrible plagues of human history suffer from one simple fact: They are completely unfounded and do not stand up to critical scrutiny. In times of uncertainty, however, some people occasionally seek out seemingly simple explanations for extremely complex problems, a breeding ground for conspiracy myths.

Around 1348 Europe was hit by another epidemic, this time the cause was a bacterium. Yersinia pestis is its name, it is the causative agent of the plague. The so-called black plague has depopulated Europe, people did not know what the reason for this mass extinction could be. Was it a divine judgment?

In the logic of the times, this would have meant blaming the people themselves for the plague. Instead, some spared and survivors gave a completely different explanation: in a very short time it was said that the fault lay with the Jews. This lie has been promoted and fired by many authorities. The wells, for example, were poisoned by the Jews and spread the plague as a scourge of humanity.

This was all fictitious, yet it turned out to be murderous. The Jewish people were massacred in numerous cities; these crimes were murder and theft at the same time. Because with the murdered Jews, many Christians lost their creditors at the same time, whose assets they also appropriated. Hundreds of Jewish communities have been destroyed after the excesses of anti-Jewish violence.

AIDS as a propaganda weapon of the KGB

As in the 14th century, epidemics have caused panic and hysteria in our contemporary history. In 1982 the “Spiegel” news bulletin reported on the so-called “shock from over there”. “Over there” is the United States, where a mysterious illness initially caused horror, especially among homosexuals. AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome), triggered by the human immunodeficiency virus, was quickly and stigmatized as a “gay epidemic”.

But the virus does not share human prejudices, no matter if its host is heterosexual or homosexual, and HIV doesn’t care about skin color and religion. The so-called “gay cancer” has spread rapidly, even outside the homosexual and drug scene. While scientists studied the virus and the disease, some people preferred to believe conspiracy theories. As with Corona today, the misunderstanding quickly emerged that HIV was derived from a laboratory – as a weapon used by the American military, instead of originating in monkeys, as is the reality.

During the Cold War, emerging conspiracy myths were ground in the KGB mill. The Soviet secret services launched a disinformation campaign to harm the class enemy in the West. A supporting organ of the KGB’s efforts was the headquarters of the Enlightenment, the GDR’s foreign intelligence service, which was subordinate to the State Security Ministry.

Jakob Segal and his wife Lilli, a research couple from the GDR, provided support. Biologist Segal has identified Fort Detrick in Maryland, a US military base, which – of course – has a laboratory, as the alleged place where HIV develops. The HIV created in Segal’s imagination was later tested on inmates. These, in turn, who had become homosexuals behind bars and then released, had spread the virus. Nonsense from front to back.

The fact that the GDR biologist had never personally examined the pathogen did not challenge him in any way. However, Segal released his claims to the world without any scientific backing. With consequences to date: conspiracy theory has made it difficult to educate and treat AIDS in some African countries. Especially when the US is involved in some way.

The example of immunodeficiency disease makes it very clear what harm the conspiracy myths about epidemics can cause. It’s best to trust science. The coronavirus is no one’s attempt to subjugate humanity. “Complex energy plans are rarely hidden and seldom successful,” Yuval Noah Harari, one of the world’s leading historians, said in an interview with t-online. “To think now that a few power-hungry billionaires could take over the world with the help of a virus is ridiculous.”
