Frozen Coronavirus leads China to step up inspection of imported products

The National Health Commission of China has released new regulations to step up control over imported products after detecting the novel coronavirus in frozen packaging, including chicken wings from Brazil.

The new rules establish the thorough disinfection of the packaging of frozen products and the adequate protection of personnel in contact with these products, as well as the increase of health checks along the entire supply chain, from arrival at customs to the point of sale.

The city of Shenzhen, in the southeast, found traces of the virus in packages of frozen chicken wings from Brazil and, a month earlier, in seafood from Ecuador.

The total number of active infected people in mainland China is 424, including eight in serious condition.

China has recorded a total of 4,634 deaths from disease and 86,245 infected since the start of the pandemic in the city of Wuhan in the center of the country.
