The National Health Commission of China has released new regulations to step up control over imported products after detecting the novel coronavirus in frozen packaging, including chicken wings from Brazil.
The new rules establish the thorough disinfection of the packaging of frozen products and the adequate protection of personnel in contact with these products, as well as the increase of health checks along the entire supply chain, from arrival at customs to the point of sale.
“If the result of a test [a um produto congelado importado] positive, must be returned or destroyed, as required by the rules “, is determined.
The Chinese authorities also stress the need to record the path followed by each of these products, to facilitate the tracking of possible infections.
The announcement appears the next day a port in the port of Tianjin in the north of the country was diagnosed with covid-19.
The man was infected after contacting a package in which traces of the virus were found, according to local media.
On Saturday, authorities in Dezhou City, Shandong Province, said they did so found traces of the virus during a random inspection of frozen pork packages from Germany, and disembarked at Tianjin port on October 19, which assumes that the virus has survived in the package for at least 19 days.
On September 24, two port workers in the eastern port of Qingdao also contracted the virus when they came into contact with packages that contained traces of covid-19.
Weeks later, the infection caused an epidemic in the city, according to Chinese authorities.
In recent months, several frozen products from countries such as Ecuador or Brazil have put Chinese authorities on alert.
Last August, the central province of Shanxi announced a ban on the purchase, sale and use of white shrimp from Ecuador after detecting several cases of coronavirus in packaging.
The city of Shenzhen, in the southeast, found traces of the virus in packages of frozen chicken wings from Brazil and, a month earlier, in seafood from Ecuador.
The total number of active infected people in mainland China is 424, including eight in serious condition.
China has recorded a total of 4,634 deaths from disease and 86,245 infected since the start of the pandemic in the city of Wuhan in the center of the country.
