69 inmates managed to break down the cell doors of the prison near Beirut this morning and escape. 15 of them were caught and another was taken back to prison by their mother, according to the NNA news agency.

Security forces ransacked the area and locals were warned to be on high alert.

Six of the escaped inmates managed to steal a Dacia car and escape with it. However, they collided with a tree and five of them died. The sixth inmate was injured, the news agency reported.
