PDemocratic Party politicians are eager to pursue a media report stating that President Donald Trump perpetrated an employee in perjury to cover commercial relations with Russia during the 2016 election campaign. The Internet portal "Buzzfeed" reported Thursday, citing two anonymous federal policemen from a statement by the former Trump attorney, Michael Cohen. According to Trump after his electoral victory Cohen had asked to vindicate the Congress falsely, even before the first primaries, the Republican candidate in January 2016, the project gave up building a "Trump Tower" in Moscow.
In the meantime, however, he contacted the Special Investigator team Robert Mueller, the Internet portal and said the report was partly inaccurate. "Buzzfeed's description of the statements made at the Special Investigator's office, as well as the documents and statements made in this office regarding Michael Cohen's statement to Congress, are not correct." Mueller rarely speaks in public.
In November, Cohen had already pleaded guilty in court for lying to the intelligence committees of both Chambers of Congress. The construction project was continued until June. Special Prosecutor Mueller certified that Cohen had made "credible" information on contacts with "people in the White House" in the years 2017 and 2018.
According to Buzzfeed, Cohen should also organize a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin for Trump to carry out the construction project. When it came out last November, Trump justified his continuing attempts to start business by emphasizing that he could have lost the election. The novelty is the accusation that the president "would instruct" his attorney Cohen to lie to Congress. The investigators had opened it in conversation with witnesses of Trump's company and e-mails and other documents; Cohen confirmed it.
Individual Democrats have requested impeachment proceedings. Representative Adam Schiff, president of the intelligence committee, spoke of "one of the most serious allegations so far". Senator Chris Murphy invited Mueller to inform Congress before the end of his entire investigation, "so that it is not too late for us to take action". On 7 February the testimony of Cohen is expected in front of the Chamber.
