Europol has started the search for 18 of the most dangerous sex offenders in Europe. The fugitive criminals will be caught via the Europe’s Most Wanted campaign, Europol announced in The Hague on Tuesday. The fugitives are already sentenced or urgently suspected.

Sexual crimes are among the worst crimes, Europol points out. “A sex crime is committed almost every two minutes in the EU”. Sexual violence can affect anyone, but the victims are mainly women and children.

With the online campaign, the European police authority is asking citizens to help. On the site “the most desired»Profiles of the most dangerous sex offenders can be found on social media for four weeks.

Notes can be sent anonymously

19 countries take part in the campaign. Information about the requested person can be submitted anonymously online. The responsible national investigators would then be informed directly.

Europol’s first “Most Wanted” campaign was carried out in 2016. Targeted search is carried out online and across Europe for a limited number of refugees. Since then, according to information from Europol, 91 offenders have been arrested. In 33 cases the decisive tip came from the population.
