Ethiopia bombs the capital of Tigray as Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed refuses requests for mediation

The Ethiopian Air Force bombed the capital of the semi-autonomous state of northern Tigray on Monday as part of a new offensive in the nearly two-week conflict. This is happening as Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed – who won the Nobel Peace Prize last year – rejects requests for mitigation. Hundreds of people have died since Ethiopian troops began the attack on Tigray on 4 November. More than 25,000 refugees have fled to Sudan.
