Colombian President Iván Duque extended the health emergency in force in the country due to the coronavirus pandemic for 90 days on Wednesday 25-N, a measure that will last until February 28, 2021.

“The health emergency was scheduled to end on November 30, but on the basis of the global reading of the alert situation and the global health emergency due to the pandemic state (…) I gave a clear instruction and that is the health emergency It will be extended until February 28, 2021 “, announced the president on his television program Prevention and Action.

In those 90 days, as explained by the Head of State, the Government and health institutions hope to continue to control the spread of the virus, continue to monitor the pandemic, work with experts and international organizations and closely monitor the development of vaccination programs.

Since March, when the first case of covid-19 was recorded, Colombia has accumulated 1,270,991 infections, of which 57,260 are still active, and 35,860 deaths.

Duque highlighted as a positive aspect that since the end of August the country has not experienced “sudden spikes” in the number of new cases and deaths.

“We are about to meet three months with excellent collective behavior that we must extend throughout the month of December,” he added, explaining that the extension of the health emergency is consistent with the decisions made by the World Health Organization and the Pan-American Organization. health care.

Furthermore, he stressed that this measure will make it possible to move towards a safe and responsible reactivation of the country according to criteria of selective isolation and targeted monitoring by the regions.
