The world of football is in mourning. On Wednesday, November 25, Argentine star Diego Armando Maradona died at the age of 60 after suffering a heart attack in a rented house in the San Andrés de Villanueva neighborhood of Tigre (Argentina).
There he was recovering from an operation performed on November 3 to remove a subdural hematoma and continue treatment for his alcohol addiction.

Maradona left the Olvidos clinic on Wednesday 11 November, but his last public appearance was on 30 October, on his 60th birthday.
That day he offered his last interview to the Argentine newspaper ‘Clarín’ and these were the most emotional sentences he left:
-
“Football gave me everything I had, more than I ever imagined. And if I hadn’t had that addiction I could have played a lot more ”.
When asked about the best and worst that happened to him in his life, the Argentine idol did not hesitate to point out, firstly, football and, secondly, his addiction to alcohol and drugs. The former footballer also assured that what he regretted the most was not having his parents, stating that he is sure that “from heaven” they are proud of him.
-
“I know what it feels like to be hungry, I know what it feels like when you don’t eat for several days and this can’t happen in my country.”
Maradona cited the current contingency that Argentina is experiencing due to the coronavirus, where over 1,300,000 cases and more than 37,000 deaths have already been recorded. He assured that what he most wanted was “for this pandemic to pass as soon as possible and that my Argentina can go on” because his greatest desire is “to see Argentines happy, with work and food every day”.
-
“I’ve been out for a long time and sometimes you wonder if people will still love me, if they will continue to feel the same.”
Maradona assured that he will always be eternally grateful to people and that he is convinced that the love with them will never end.
-
“Barcelona are not an easy club and he has been there for many years and has not been treated as he deserved. He gave them everything, he took them to the top and one day he wanted to go out for a change of scenery and they said no. “
This was the response the former footballer gave when asked for his opinion on Lionel Messi’s intentions to leave the Spanish club. That said, the champion said that it happened to him too and that he understands the ’10’ of the Argentine team.
