Due to the constant snowfall, the situation in the Alps remains tense. Villages are isolated from the outside world, avalanches lose roads, schools are closed – the winter climate is in many places a state of emergency. Forecasts for the Bavarian snow areas do not bode well: new snow is announced. Also, it should be colder again. Things are also getting worse in Austria and Switzerland.
11:34 clock: Seehofer sends rescuers in the snowy areas
Faced with massive snowfalls in southern Bavaria, federal police provide 230 emergency services to assist humanitarian workers in snow-covered areas.
This was announced by the Federal Minister of Internal Affairs Horst Seehofer (CSU) on Monday during a visit to Berchtesgaden. "This is a sign that you are simply gathering in such a situation," he said during the meeting with the rescue and auxiliaries.
On Saturday, the district administrator of the Land Berchtesgadener asked for help from the federal police. In the region the catastrophe has been going on for days.
More than 1,000 forces of the German Armed Forces, Firefighters, the Red Cross and the Technical Relief Organization are already in action: they free, among other things, snowy masses of collapsed roofs.
10:22 am: One hundred people evacuated from the hotel in Balderschwang
According to Landratsamt Oberallgäu, no one was injured in the avalanche at Balderschwang. Only the hotel is damaged.
The approximately 100 guests of the hotel were therefore hosted elsewhere.
Balderschwang is located directly on the Austrian border. The approximately 1,100 residents and tourists of the city are currently cut off from the outside world.
09:36 clock: over 180 blocked roads in Austria
According to Austrian radio, a dozen places are currently not available, more than 180 streets are closed.
In some regions, the avalanche danger has increased again compared to the weekend.
The night snow fell in Vorarlberg and in the Tyrol between 65 and 100 centimeters. During the day they should be between 30 and 50 centimeters.
According to the Central Institute of Meteorology and Geodynamics, it can be heated up to 5 degrees in Tyrol and in Vorarlberg.
"With heating, the willingness to spontaneously release natural avalanches increases significantly, especially at medium and high altitudes," says the report on the situation of the avalanche service. Even in the Hohe Tauern area in the province of Salzburg, the highest level of avalanche warning is applied on Monday.
8:40 am: Horst Seehofer visits the land of Berchtesgadener
The Federal Minister of Internal Affairs Horst Seehofer (CSU) today looks at the snowy chaos that has been taking place for days in the Bavarian Alps. As his ministry announced on Sunday evening, Seehofer wants to meet with the federal police force and the Federal Agency for Technical Rescue in Berchtesgadener Land.
Conversations are planned, among others, in Berchtesgaden and Neukirchen am Teisenberg. A declaration by the minister is also foreseen.
His cabinet colleague and defense minister Ursula von der Leyen (CDU) had promised further aid to the districts affected by the snow chaos on Sunday.
08:13 clock: avalanche in the Surselva in the canton of
An avalanche fell in the Surselva in the Swiss canton of Graubünden. As the Rhaetian Railway (RhB) says, the city of Disentis is no longer accessible from the Grisons.
Several railway lines had to be blocked. For example, there is no substitute train or bus between Disentis and Sumvitg on the Disentis / Mustér route to Trun.

Clock 07:54: floods in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg
After the rain and snow of the last days, several rivers and streams in Bavaria are overflowed on Monday night. Also from some regions of Baden-Wuerttemberg a flood has been reported due to rain and thaw.
Especially in the middle and in the north of Bavaria, fields and meadows have been partially flooded, as announced by the flood service. For the district of Upper Franconia of Kulmbach warned against floods in built up areas.
Even in Central Franconia, the police turned to floods. "The flood is slow," a police spokeswoman said in the morning. In Lower Bavaria, according to a police spokesperson, water levels have increased slightly.
The Neckar in Gundelsheim, Lauffen and Horb, as well as Rems or the Fils, were surpassed according to the flood forecast center of Baden-Wuerttemberg in the night until Monday to report the conditions of the water. On the Neckar, water levels have increased further in the morning, a hydrologist said at the headquarters.
In Heidelberg as well as in Eberbach and Neckargemünd the streets threatened to be washed along the Neckar early Monday morning. Highlights of the flood are the northeastern part of the country and the Black Forest, he said.
07:33 clock: avalanche meets the hotel in the Allgäu
An avalanche hit a hotel in the Bavarian ski resort of Balderschwang. On Monday morning, no one was injured by the masses of snow, a police spokesman said.
The avalanche with a width of 300 meters pushed into hotel windows and snow entered inside. According to information, guests and employees are missing.
The forces were in place, but initially they were not able to start the compensation. A person has suffered fainting and has been treated by a doctor. If this was related to the avalanche, initially it was not clear.
07:10 clock: 17,000 people in Austria cut off from the outside world
In Austria, the situation is getting worse. Places like Lech and Zürs were no longer accessible due to a block of access roads. This has communicated the communities on Sunday evening on their websites.
The village of Stuben am Arlberg was also isolated from the outside world because of the danger of avalanches. Also the Fernpass, an important link between Germany and Austria, is closed.
In Salzburg alone, 17,000 people were cut off from the outside world. As reported by the authorities, the road to Obertauern was closed on Sunday evening due to the danger of avalanches.
06:23 clock: avalanche spills upper Bavarian federal highway
An avalanche partially buried a highway in the Upper Bavaria district of Berchtesgadener Land late Sunday evening. No cars were buried and no one was injured, a police spokeswoman said Monday evening.
Rescue forces – including mountain rescue – were in action. The 15 meter high and five meter high avalanche hit the B 305 between Weißbach an der Alpenstraße and Inzell.
The road section in the municipality of Schneizlreuth should initially be closed until Monday at noon.

In some parts of Austria the highest level of avalanche warning is recalled again due to the new snowfall. For Monday it is briefly applied to the warning level 5 west of the Tyrol, the authorities said Sunday in Innsbruck. Due to weather conditions and the high risk of avalanches, Austrian Federal Railways have reported restrictions and cancellation of trains with railroad replacement traffic in many places.
In five regions of Upper Bavaria Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen, Traunstein, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Miesbach and Berchtesgadener Land has been the disaster for days – and probably will persist initially.
In many schools in Upper and Lower Bavaria and in Allgäu, lessons are canceled on Monday, because there is no guaranteed way to go to school according to the authorities. In the counties of Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen and Oberallgäu and in the city of Kempten there is no lesson until Tuesday. In the district of Traunstein it was snowed at least until Wednesday.
The situation in Switzerland was also tense: the avalanche danger was raised at the highest level by the Institute of Snow and Avalanche Research in several areas.
