Switzerland appears to have reversed the trend of the krona. Since the beginning of November, the number of new infections has been decreasing and hospitalizations of coronary patients are also decreasing. To a large extent, however, this success is attributable to the cantons of western Switzerland.
But we’re not doing well internationally. Switzerland is still a crown hot spot in Europe. And the successes of the last few weeks as well as the holidays involve the risk that many become more careless again.
Battle zone ski slope
Internationally, Zoff could therefore be involved: Germany, Italy and France want ski resorts in the Alpine region to only open from the beginning or even from mid-January. Apart from Austria, Switzerland is also reluctant to postpone the start of the season. “In Valais, people ski during the holiday season and eat in restaurants, whatever Italy does,” said the Council of State of the CVP of Valais Christophe Darbellay (49) the “Walliser Bote”.
This strategy could lead many foreigners to carve on Swiss slopes and take the virus home along with fond memories of fresh snow. Switzerland would be pilloried.
Health Minister Alain Berset (48) said Wednesday that the federal government is in talks with the cantons on the matter. The topic of ski resorts could be on the agenda today, Thursday, when Berset meets with representatives of the cantons to discuss how to fight the coronavirus.
Switzerland is lagging behind when it comes to vaccinations
A vaccination strategy could also be discussed: several European countries have presented their vaccination plans in recent days. The federal government still says that an exact vaccination plan can only be submitted once the vaccine is known. However, it is assumed that the first vaccinations will be given in the first half of 2021. Other states are faster.
After the meeting, Berset and Lukas Engelberger, president of the cantonal directors of health, will appear before the media. VIEW reports in real time. (sf)
