A photo of Croatian Margareta Kranjec (99) is currently touring the world: the lively pensioner raises her thumb and laughs in front of the camera. “It’s over, now I feel good”, he tells the Croatian daily “Večernji list”.
The very old woman has defeated the coronavirus and is now back in her room, in a home for the elderly in the city of Karlovac.
“It’s amazing that the corona virus can’t harm her”
After several residents of the home for the elderly contracted the corona virus, Kranjec also tested positive for the virus in late October. Although she does not suffer from any serious pre-existing illnesses, she was taken to hospital as a precaution. However, almost no symptoms developed in Kranjec: she was able to leave the hospital about three weeks later.
“Given her frailty and her old age, it is really surprising that the coronavirus was unable to harm her,” says Stefica Ljubic Mlinac, the director of the retirement home. This is really good news. With its 4.2 million inhabitants, Croatia has recorded nearly 140,000 coronavirus infections so far – 2000 people have died from the virus.
Seniors from Switzerland
Worldwide, there are repeated reports of older people who, despite their age, have faced the virus, including people from Switzerland. In the spring, Gertrude Fatton, 95, from Le Locle NE fought for her life for a week. Multiple grandmother and great grandmother recovered and were able to go home.
The mother of former Federal Councilor Doris Leuthard, Ruth Leuthard (88), was also infected with Corona. He also got over the virus without any symptoms. (bra)
