About 3.5 million people in southeastern France were left without television and radio on Tuesday following a fire last night on a Télédiffusion de France (TDF) platform near Marseille, AFP reports, according to AGERPRES.

“It is undoubtedly the criminal nature of the fire,” TDF Southeast regional director Patrice Bargas told AFP, citing “burglary”.

The fire broke out Monday night through Tuesday in the transmission room and spread through cables, local firefighters said, also citing the possibility of an “intrusion” and “malicious act”. An investigation into this case was opened by the Aix-en-Provence prosecutor’s office.

After the fire, the transmission of 25 of the 30 TNT (digital terrestrial television) channels and 19 FM radio stations was interrupted on a quarter of the territory, TDF said.
