Covid-19: national reconfiguration is still a minority measure in Europe – Today

According to French President Emmanuel Macron, who spoke in a speech broadcast on television, it is necessary to “brutally stop the infections” to avoid the collapse of hospitals.

The new hospitalization, which will last at least until December 1, will begin on Friday, but for now the schools will remain open.

The new measures in France foresee the closure of bars and restaurants during the period of the new confinement.

In Europe, only Wales (UK) and Ireland re-confined the entire population before French President Emmanuel Macron’s announcement this Wednesday.

To try to tackle a second wave of covid-19 disease (caused by the new coronavirus SARS-Cov-2), the nearly five million Irish were the first in Europe to enter this new period of imprisonment on Thursday.

The order was issued for a period of six weeks.

The approximately three million Welsh, however, were locked up the following day (last Friday) and will have to stay home as long as possible for about two weeks, that is, until 9 November.

However, unlike last spring’s imprisonment, schools remain open.

On a smaller scale, about 150,000 inhabitants of three municipalities in northern Portugal (Lousada, Felgueiras and Paços de Ferreira) also entered “semi” confinement on Friday.

In Germany, the authorities today decreed the partial closure, from Monday and for four weeks, of restaurants, bars, theaters, sports, cultural and recreational facilities, but without moving towards a reconfiguration of the population.

Citizens are advised to avoid unnecessary travel.

The schools will remain open, as will all the shops, but with stricter rules.

Outside of Europe, and in recent months, there have been new periods of imprisonment in countries like Israel and Lebanon, in cities like Auckland (New Zealand) and Melbourne (Australia), or in large areas of the Philippines.

If total population restructuring is still a minority option in Europe, curfew measures are increasing.

Before returning to confinement, France imposed this measure on October 17, from 21:00 to 6:00, in the cities of the country most affected by the new coronavirus. A week later, the measure will be extended to two thirds of the French population.

Spain, Belgium, Luxembourg, Slovenia, Slovakia and the Czech Republic have also enacted a nighttime curfew, while in Italy and Greece the measure covers only large cities or specific regions.

This measure is often presented as a last resort to avoid further total confinement of the population.

It is usually accompanied by other restrictive measures that are applied during the day, such as, for example, the obligation to wear a personal protective mask, the closure of bars and cultural venues and the imposition of limits for meeting people.
