On Friday, the number of confirmed COVID-19 infections in Africa surpassed 1.93 million, while the continent’s workload continues to grow steadily.
According to the latest data from the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Africa had reported 1,930,981 cases and 46,505 deaths by Friday afternoon.
South Africa remains the country most affected by the pandemic on the continent, with 744,732 cases and 20,076 deaths.
The country accounts for 38.57% of Africa’s workload and 43.17% of the death toll.
In addition to South Africa, only Morocco (276,821), Egypt (110,095) and Ethiopia (101,248) have recorded more than 100,000 cases of COVID-19 in Africa.
A broader look at the data shows that 10 African countries have recorded more than 50,000 cases.
Nine countries have reported more than 1,000 deaths.
CDC Africa data shows that approximately 1,634,235 patients have successfully recovered from the disease in Africa.
