Spahn expects fewer vaccines by the end of the year
According to the Federal Minister of Health Jens Spahn (CDU), the EU and therefore Germany will also be affected by the fact that the pharmaceutical company Pfizer may initially administer less corona vaccine. “This means that all those who are among the main recipients of deliveries, whether it is Great Britain, the US or the European Union, are now with them fewer vaccination doses should be expected in the first few weeksSpahn said on Friday in Berlin. “However, starting today, if approval is given, the first vaccinations will be given in Germany at the turn of the year,” he added.
The US company Pfizer had developed a corona vaccine together with the German manufacturer Biontech from Mainz. In the UK is already approved, not yet in the EU or the US. But it could happen in December. Pfizer said it had to set the delivery target for its vaccine this year, among other things halve due to delays in expanding the supply chain.
The expansion is taking longer than expected, a company spokesperson told the Wall Street Journal Thursday. According to the newspaper, Pfizer has internally maintained the goal of to provide 100 million doses of the vaccine by the end of this year. More recently, however, the company reported 50 million cans. For the next year, the original plan to deliver more than a billion doses of the vaccine will remain, the paper wrote. (dpa)
