Corona vaccine: Pfizer halves delivery target – DER SPIEGEL

According to a newspaper article, US pharmaceutical company Pfizer plans to deliver only half of its announced corona vaccine this year. The supply chain expansion is taking longer than expected, a spokesperson for the company said Thursday in the Wall Street Journal.

Instead of the 100 million deliveries actually hoped for, the report says Pfizer is only planning about 50 million by the end of the year. The group did not initially respond to a request for more detailed information. Pfizer developed the vaccine together with the German manufacturer Biontech.

The UK Medicines Agency granted Pfizer and Biontech emergency approval for their corona vaccine on Wednesday. The UK is the first country to issue a certificate of authorization for the vaccine. The US Food and Drug Administration and the European Medicines Agency Ema are also currently examining these applications.
