The left asks Merkel for a social summit of the Crown
The parliamentary manager of the left-wing parliamentary group in the Bundestag, Jan Korte, has called for a crown social summit from Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU). The goal must be to bring the “undesirable side effects” of the restrictions on crown contacts “more into focus”, especially among the poor, the German editorial network quoted in a letter from Kortes to the Chancellor on Saturday.
The first youth welfare offices sounded the alarm in March and warned of the negative consequences of school closures and restrictions on contacts for children from disadvantaged families. The Hamburg-Eppendorf University Medical Center noted an increase in psychosomatic disorders, especially among children from socially disadvantaged families, and called for concepts to better support families in times of stress. Other studies have also found significant increases in psychological distress in adults.
“Poor people have an above-average risk of contracting the virus, for example due to cramped living conditions and difficult working conditions, they also have a higher risk of dying from an illness,” Korte wrote according to the report. Digitization as a widespread panacea for all educational problems reaches its limits in poor families when space is simply not enough or a fast internet connection costs too much.
“For this reason I suggest you invite as soon as possible to a social summit of the Crown, in order to – together with parliamentary groups – seek advice from social associations, trade unions, representatives of youth welfare offices, projects for women and social assistance , as well as other relevant social actors in which areas of federal and state government can act together to do justice to their tasks, ”quoted the newspaper from the letter from the left-wing politician.
