The Italian government fears a pandemic that is spiraling out of control. He fears the third wave that could come after Christmas. And he fears that the ski holiday could play a fundamental role.
The request of the Italians is clear: the ski slopes should remain until the end of January. And throughout Europe. Also in the Swiss Alps. The government of Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte (56 years old) has already had such talks. This was reported by the Italian newspaper “La Repubblica”.
In Switzerland, on the other hand, Conte’s representatives risk biting into the granite. Tourism Minister Guy Parmelin (61) personally conducted a holiday campaign in his country yesterday. It had the support of Federal President Simonetta Sommaruga (60), as reported by BLICK.
Skiing fun only at the end of January
But Italy is serious. According to the Italian government, the ski slopes should not open until the end of January, when the number of infections will decrease and EU countries will be able to start vaccination campaigns. Conte’s government must present a final decision by 3 December.
It is already clear: to give trade a little respite during the Advent period, shops should be able to stay open until 10 pm in all regions regardless of the number of infections. With the longer opening hours, Italy wants to avoid the crowds. Security forces should check that there are no traffic jams in shopping malls and supermarkets.
Schools – with the exception of compulsory school for children – should remain closed until January, despite the decline in infections.
Since the start of the pandemic in Italy on February 20, around 50,000 people have died from the corona virus. The situation in Bergamo was worse in the spring. The images of the nocturnal transport of corpses have been around the world. (ise)
