Joseph Varon has been on non-stop duty since March: the chief physician from Texas and his team are working to the limit: the crown pandemic is not allowing them to calm down. A photo of Varon now goes viral and touches people all over the world.
The photo was taken at the United Memorial Medical Center in Houston. It shows the doctor holding and comforting an elderly patient in his arms. Varon is wearing a protective suit. It’s her 252th consecutive day of work in a corona intensive care unit!
“I want to be with my wife”
As Varon told CNN, the photo was taken during the Thanksgiving holiday. That day the older man tried to get out of bed. “I want to be with my wife,” said the crown patient, according to Varon, with tears.
That’s why she hugged him. The patient felt better afterwards and was able to find hope again. According to Varon, the older man is expected to be released this week, so he may finally return to his wife.
“Nurses break”
Many patients would suffer from isolation in the corona intensive care unit, Varon says. But the staff is also at the limit. “My nurses break down, some cry in the middle of the day because they get sad about situations like this,” she says.
Varon warned that many Americans would not adhere to hygiene standards: “This is crazy. People don’t listen and then they end up in my intensive care unit, “he says.
The prisoners have to pack dead crowns in trucks
These aren’t the first photos of Texas to go around the world during this pandemic: in the city of El Paso, prisoners had to load the dead crown onto trucks – there was no more space in the morgue. The dead were stacked on pallets. Photos and videos of it shocked.
After the authorities asked for help, several inmates volunteered for this job. Over 20,000 people in Texas have already died from the virus. (bra)
