Chinese authorities uncovered the case of a couple who sold their 40-day-old son for more than 89 million pesos (163,000 yuan).
The decision to do so was made after both lost their jobs in a factory, due to the new coronavirus pandemic..
The purchase was discovered after some people informed authorities of a woman’s strange attitude on the railway lines in the city of Hefei, capital of Anhui province (China), on October 30.

The decision to sell it
The child’s parents were identified as Liu and Zhang, accused of the crime of child trafficking.
The ‘Anhui Net’ media reported having two more children, one 7 years old and the other 2 years old, and that they worked in an embroidery factory in Shantou (Chinese city) until they lost economic stability as a result of the pandemic, causing their debts to spiral out of control.
The couple were unemployed in the first half of the year, when the baby was not yet born.

The father, Liu, thought that they would alleviate their financial needs if they sold the baby and persuaded his wife to do business, on a first try, with an acquaintance of a friend.
The woman was willing to buy the baby for almost 55 million pesos (100,000 yuan): she already had three daughters, but she wanted a son..
On the day of the birth (late September) the plan failed, as the hospital refused to issue the birth certificate after discovering that the person requesting it was not the baby’s biological mother.
