Bird flu alert in South Korea! Thousands of animals were slaughtered

The North Jeolla state government announced that 292,000 chickens and 100,000 ducks on the city’s farms were culled after the avian flu virus was detected on Thursday at a duck farm in Jeongeup province, according to the Yonhap agency.

The state government noted that case-detected farm and other poultry farms within 10 kilometers of the farm were identified as dense quarantine zones, and quarantine equipment was shipped to the area to bolster disinfection efforts.

The Ministry of Agriculture also reported that all farms in the city of Jeongeup have been closed for 7 days as part of the anti-virus measures.

The avian influenza virus was reported to be the highly pathogenic H5N8 species.

The virus was the first case of the year detected in the country.
