BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (KABC) – The Beverly Hills City Council passed a resolution on Tuesday opposing the Los Angeles County ban on outdoor dining.

The resolution was passed unanimously and calls on the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors to vote on repealing the current health order.

Citing “a negative impact on local businesses and a lack of scientific evidence used by the county,” the resolution calls for a motion to be placed on the board’s agenda on December 8 to repeal it.

Beverly Hills also calls for future public health orders to be “based on actual data relating to a particular industry, sector or area and not unilaterally applied to all Los Angeles County jurisdictions.”

During the meeting, the board asked staff to explore the possibility of setting up a local city health department and not remaining under the jurisdiction of Los Angeles County. West Covina, Whittier, Lancaster, and Hawaiian Gardens are also looking to break away from the LA County Public Health Department.

The resolution orders the city attorney to review lawsuits against the county.

LA County’s ban on outdoor dining went into effect last Wednesday and sparked protests from restaurant industry leaders and some local officials. It will be in effect for at least three weeks.
