Belgian families can get together for Christmas, but only one person can go to the bathroom
The measures apply to groups of four Belgians and only to those with garden houses.
Tighter measures this Christmas
As we wait here next Saturday, December 5th, to learn about the measures the government will impose for Christmas and New Year, there are already rules out there – and some seem bizarre.
This is what happens in Belgium, where even if families are allowed to hold small meetings, these can only be organized by those who have a garden or terrace with access to the street. Furthermore, only four guests can join and only one of them, chosen by the owners of the house, can use the bathroom.
These are the measures announced by the Minister of the Interior, Annelies Verlinden, who explained that “if someone wants to go to the bathroom, they will have to do it in their own accommodation”.
To these measures are added some curious details, such as the ban on the exchange of food between family members and the need to maintain hygiene rules and safety distances. Although it is possible to enter the house and stop to drink or eat, the Belgian authorities warn of the greater danger of enclosed spaces where the air circulates less.
After being closed for a month, Belgian stores started reopening on Monday 30 November. Instead, the spaces for culture, sport and hairdressing remain closed.
