AU urges member states, partners to support the CAR – Xinhua national dialogue

ADDIS ABEBA, January 22 (Xinhua) – The African Union (AU) has urged its member states and partners to provide the necessary support for the successful conclusion of the Central African Republic (CAR) national dialogue scheduled for January 24 in Khartoum, Sudan.

The last meeting of the Council for Peace and Security of the 55-member Union deliberated on the situation in the Central African Republic, according to a statement from the AU on Tuesday.

The Council commended the President of the CAR, Faustin-Archange Touadera, for his readiness and cooperation, and also noted the good will and intentions expressed by the various groups to participate in the national dialogue in the framework of the African initiative.

The Council welcomed the commitment of the various groups to participate in direct dialogue with the car government, under the guidance of the AU and with the support of the UN and the countries of the region.

He also expressed his gratitude to the Sudanese authorities for offering to host the talks.

During the meeting, the Council reiterated its deep concern about the continuing deterioration of the security situation in the Central African Republic and its consequences on the already very difficult socio-economic and humanitarian situation in the country.

The council praised the efforts made by the AU, through the African initiative for peace and reconciliation in the Central African Republic, with the active support of the countries of the region, in particular through the Economic Community of the Member States. Central Africa.
