British Prime Minister Boris Johnson warned the British on Thursday that if they violate the restrictions in place against the coronavirus, they risk facing a new national blockade in the new year, dpa reports.

He warned, however, that the population should not let their guard down and said that if the restrictions that apply since December 2, based on a three-tier system, are not respected, there could be a new blockade in January.
“If we relax now, we risk losing control of this virus again, wasting hard-earned gains and forcing ourselves to a new block in the new year, with all the damage that entails,” he told them. Johnson to reporters.

“I know this will bring a lot of problems and a special frustration to our hospitality industry,” he added.
“I wish it were different, but if it’s to keep schools open as they should, our options for overcoming this disease are limited,” he said.

Boris Johnson’s comments came after the British and Scottish governments introduced restrictions that their citizens will have to abide by during the holiday season.
British health minister Matt Hancock revealed in a speech in parliament which regions of England will have the most severe local restrictions when the country comes out of national quarantine on 2 December.

Hancock said some of the cities in the north of England and the Midlands, including Manchester, Birmingham and Leicester, will face the toughest restrictions, those at the 3rd level, while London is currently at the 2nd level.
Scottish Prime Minister Nicola Sturgeon has announced that the country’s parliament will relax during Christmas, December 23-27, to allow citizens to travel to the UK to meet friends and family.

England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland agreed earlier this week to ease Christmas restrictions so people can see their families.
Some of these rules for December 23-27 allow Brits to meet families from two other families, but only in private homes, places of worship and outdoor spaces.
