A training course on online defense journalism organized by the Anadolu Agency and the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) for Azerbaijani correspondents began on Monday.
Training on defense journalism and crisis zone reporting began via videoconference with the presence of 48 Azeri journalists.
Delivering a keynote address for the program, Agency Deputy Director-General and Editor-in-Chief Anadolu Metin Mutanoglu began his remarks by congratulating Azerbaijan on a new military success in Nagorno-Karabakh, also known as Upper Karabakh.
Mutanoglu said the liberation of Shusha – which had been under Armenian occupation for over 28 years – is a sign that Azerbaijan will liberate its other occupied lands.
He said the Turkish nation and all governments to date have always supported Baku in its just cause.
Noting that some initiatives and the Minsk group have simply blocked the Azerbaijani nation instead of providing a solution to the conflict, Mutanoglu said: “What we have seen here is that if you come out strong on the ground and join, there will be no difficulties. you cannot overcome. “
The Minsk Group of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), co-chaired by France, Russia and the United States, was formed in 1992 to find a peaceful but unsuccessful solution to the conflict. A ceasefire, however, was agreed in 1994.
Mutanoglu wanted no more casualties and the withdrawal of the Armenian army from the region.
He pointed out that the Anadolu Agency has begun to go global with war journalism training and added that News Academy is working to train many journalists both in Ankara and outside the capital in partnership with TIKA.
He also said that journalists in Azerbaijan need to report on war zones during this period and stressed the agency’s experience in this field.

Mutanoglu said the agency is following developments in Syria with an experienced team and recalled that some of the agency’s reporters have lost their lives in the region.
Pointing to the agency’s extensive experience in war relations, he said they value sharing this experience.
He also said that the most important point in covering the situation in Azerbaijan’s Upper Karabakh is the survival of journalists, and added that the agency has previously provided serious training in this regard in collaboration with the Police Academy and the Turkish armed forces in Ankara.
This knowledge and experience will make a serious contribution to Azerbaijani journalists and enlighten the work in crisis regions, Mutanoglu said, adding: “It is a very sacred duty to convey the facts to people, but no news is more precious than your life. “
“If human rights violations or war crimes are committed there, it is our duty to prove it, but while we do so, we must first protect our lives,” he said.
Mutanoglu said the agency has always been with Azerbaijan and works together with the Azeri news agency AZERTAC.
He added that the Anadolu Agency also works on the ground to cover the liberation of Azerbaijani lands and said it is “happiness” to report news of the liberation.
“It is hoped that, in our next meeting, we will see the days when the entire territory of Karabakh will be liberated and the Azerbaijani people will have their own lands.”
