On Friday, state advocacy groups celebrated a House vote to decriminalize marijuana.

“The MORE Act provides a foundation upon which to build state legislators, and we in New Jersey must continue to set new levels of racial and social justice in legalization,” said ACLU-NJ Executive Director Amol Singha.

The measure would remove the designation of marijuana as a Schedule 1 drug under the Controlled Substances Act and impose a 5% tax on marijuana sales, among other things.

He passed the House with a 228-164 vote in a vote that fell largely on the party line.

He is not likely to move in the Senate.
