Yasir Batalvi, a young participant in clinical trials for the COVID-19 vaccine developed by the pharmaceutical company Moderna, spoke in an interview on CNN about the side effects he experienced after being vaccinated.
“30 minutes after receiving the vaccine, I felt pain and numbness in my arm. As if someone had beaten me,” says Batalvi.
“It was difficult that night. I had a slight fever, chills, I felt tired,” he says.
Before getting the vaccine, in clinical trials, Batalvi had to sign a 22-page document, which presented possible side effects. He says he was hesitant because he would volunteer to test an experimental vaccine, but he still went ahead and got the vaccine.
Then, when Moderna announced that the vaccine had shown 94 percent efficacy, Batalvi said it was worth the risk of volunteering for clinical trials.
“The side effects don’t last long. But it’s worse if people aren’t vaccinated, the effects last a long time. It can be the difference between life and death,” he says.
The American company Moderna announced last week that the full results of the latest clinical study confirmed a 94.1% efficacy of its COVID-19 vaccine and will require emergency clearance from both the Food and Drug Administration ( FDA). ) from the United States and the European Medicines Agency (EMA).
No severe form of the disease occurred in the vaccinated group of participants. The Phase 3 clinical trial involved 30,000 volunteers.
