The number of confirmed COVID-19 infections in Kenya reached 86,383 after the Ministry of Health reported 1,253 new cases on Thursday.
Kenya continues to see a steady increase in the virus case load, a trend that has remained since the beginning of October.
In a press conference, the chief administrative secretary of the health ministry, Rashid Aman, also announced 16 new deaths related to COVID-19, bringing Kenya’s total death toll to 1,500.
Aman also reported that the country recorded 11,324 new recoveries, bringing the total number of recoveries to 67,788.
Kenya’s workload is the sixth highest in Africa, overshadowed only by counts recorded by South Africa, Morocco, Egypt, Ethiopia and Tunisia.
The death toll is the seventh highest on the continent.
