Adolf Hitler is now district administrator in the Namibian district of Ompundja. What sounds like a bad joke is the truth. Adolf Hitler Uunona (full name) had 84.88% of the vote and will help shape politics in the Oshana region in the future. His father named him in honor of this man and he probably didn’t understand what Adolf Hitler really meant, he explains to “Bild”.
Even for him as a child this was simply a name, in adulthood he then understood that this man “wanted to subjugate the whole world”. The six million Jews murdered under the Nazi regime are not mentioned here.
“It does not matter”
Uunona points out: “I have nothing to do with any of these things”. He doesn’t want to change the name, it’s in all official documents. In fact, according to the photo, a few years ago a car was seen in Oshana, whose rear window was marked with a swastika and the inscription “Adolf Hitler”. The car doesn’t belong to him, says Uunona.
The first name Adolf is not uncommon in the former German South West African colony. There are streets with the names Bismarckstrasse and Bahnhofstrasse, a German-language newspaper, German radio stations and German place names such as Lüderitz, Mariental and Helmeringhausen.
