Horror investigation in Sweden: the mother is said to have isolated her son in a dark apartment for nearly 30 years

In Sweden, a 70-year-old woman is suspected of having isolated her son for decades. The newspaper Expressen reported Monday evening that a relative found the 41-year-old man in the completely abandoned apartment. He had been cut off from the outside world since he was twelve.

Police declined to comment on the details of the case, but confirmed to the German news agency on Tuesday that the woman had been arrested. They are under investigation for deprivation of liberty and serious personal injury. The woman denies the accusations.

The relative told “Expressen” that she had long suspected that the woman had locked up her son. When she learned that the 70-year-old was in the hospital, she went to the apartment on Sunday evening.

“It was like being in a horror movie,” he told the newspaper. The apartment was dark and completely littered with rubbish. The man was sitting on the ground in a corner. He could barely speak. Despite his age, he has few teeth and leg injuries. He called an ambulance, the hospital doctors finally alerted the police.

Prosecutors said the man was still in hospital. He declined to comment on the type of injuries.
