Aerate, wear a mask, keep distance, scrub surfaces. Now the mouth area is also shifting to the center of the crown events. The reason: US company Colgate-Palmolive says brushing your teeth with their branded products reduces the number of viruses in your mouth.
“Laboratory tests have shown that certain types of toothpaste, mouthwashes and mouth sprays neutralize the virus by more than 99 percent,” the company website states. The reason: Some active ingredients in oral care products attack the envelope of the virus and dissolve it.
Colgate can neutralize viruses
The loss of this outer protective coating prevents the crown from attaching to the cells and infecting them. Neutralizing means that the virus is still present but no longer contagious. As a result, it can no longer multiply.
The active ingredients in the products that do this are cetylpyridinium chloride (CPC) plus zinc, hydrogen peroxide and chlorhexidine. They reduce the virus concentration in the oral cavity up to 60 minutes after rinsing. Before Corona, toothpaste makers primarily advertised the reduction of bacteria in the oral cavity.

The remedies reportedly reduce 99 percent of the virus volume
According to the company, the corona killer active ingredients are in the Colgate Total line and some Meridol products. Among the mouthwashes and sprays, you can find them not only in Colgate Total products but also in Colgate Plax, Vedshakti Spray and Colgate Zero. Also in the Meridol mouthwash.
Overall, according to the manufacturer, the products should be able to reduce the corona virus “by 99 percent”. For the results, Colgate conducted additional clinical trials with coronary patients.
You can still get sick
But: Once you have the virus in your mouth, you are already infected. What Colgate promises, however: “A reduction in the amount of virus in saliva that can be passed on by talking, singing or coughing could help reduce the risk of transmission,” the website states.
The company also notes that fewer viruses in the mouth don’t necessarily lead to a milder course of the disease. However, thanks to Corona, brushing your teeth has become even more important. (vnf)
